Introduction

The BGMN demo version is intended to be used for getting familiar with the software and to solve simple and intermediate analytical problems for testing purpose.

It has no limitations compared with the full version exept that only measuring data with a maximum of 1601 measuring values can be refined and the forcefield options of BGMN are disabeled.

Licence Conditions

  1. Use the program at your own risk.

  2. Educational use of the program is encouraged.

  3. Commercial use is strictly forbidden.

  4. Do not expect any support from the author except some e-mails in the Rietveld mailing list.

  5. If results achieved with BGMN are to be published, please cite the following paper:

    Bergmann, J., Kleeberg, R., Taut, T. and Haase A.,
    'Quantitative Phase Analysis Using a New Rietveld Algorithm - Assisted by Improved Stability and Convergence Behaviour'.

Installation instructions

Download the appropriate program files ('bgmndos.zip/bgmnwin32.zip') and the data files ('bgmndata.zip'). Create a directory 'rietveld' in the root of a volume (e.g. c). Then unzip the program files from and the data files into this directory. Append the BGMN directory to the path. Set the environment variable EFLECH to the program directory:
EFLECH=c:\rietveld
Now you are ready to run BGMN.

It is recommended to create separate subdirectories for each analytical task (e.g. c:\rietveld\plaster) and to run all programs from these subdirectories. These subdirs should contain the control file (*.sav), the measuring data file (*.val, *.rd, *.raw), the structure files (*.str) and the instrumental function file (*.geq/*.ger).

Actual Release of BGMN is 2.2.7 The UNIX examples does not include the *.geq files. These are binary files troubling with the well known problem of big/low endian machines. You must generate them with makegeq. This problem is solved for binary measuring files (Siemens RAW and Philips RD format). Their endianess will be corrected while reading them.
